To really settle into your vacation, it’s best to start with a spa treatment at the Sonora Desert Spa. Weekends book up quickly, so make sure to view the online menu and book your appointment when you reserve your room.

Massage therapy includes aromatherapy and essential oil treatments, hot stone therapy, and even sports and registered massage therapy. A standout treat is the Luxury Lavender Body Treatment ($110 CDN) by Kimberly, complete with a neck and scalp massage while you’re wrapped.

Hiking and Walking for Health

Since the resort is located on 130 acres of private reserve, there are plenty of hiking and walking opportunities. One starting point is the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre. After taking in the wonderful exhibits, head outside and walk along the marked trails through 50 acres of the Great Basin Desert.

The adventurous will keep their eyes open for rattlesnakes, and the smart will have listened to the knowledgeable staff at the cultural centre on how to respond to the usually harmless reptiles.

There is also a walking trail downhill to Osoyoos lake, but remember that you have to walk back up! If you’re visiting in the summer, keep in mind that temperatures average 25-30° Celsius and the dry air makes it feel much hotter- a hat, sunscreen and water are essential.

Once you’ve tired yourself out, go back to your room or villa at the 4.5 star Osoyoos hotel. The pool overlooking the vineyard also has a fun waterslide, a small fitness centre, and a hot tub with lake and vineyard views.

Also on-site are the Nk’Mip Cellars, Sonora Dunes Golf Course, and Passatempo Restaurant. Rooms vary from one bedroom suites to two bedroom villas. The villas are like a home away from home, with full kitchens, decks, and warm, desert-coloured interiors.
